Reflect on the past, plan for the future

We close out the first quarter of the 21st century, with the world at a critical turning point. This is an opportune time to reflect on the recent past to guide our expectations for the next 25 years.

Asia seems set to be the driving force of global growth with China, India and the ASEAN region paving the way. Yet, at the same time, there are imminent challenges to be prepared for while entering the next quarter.

Moving into 2025, the world, experiencing regional wars and geopolitical tensions, is faced with several existential threats ranging from climate change to bio-diversity loss and the double-edged sword of AI. Amidst these challenges, China has been calling for the establishment of a community with a shared future for mankind, whilst it must address the risk of revived polarization due to geopolitical rivalry.

Key topics and questions

to be discussed

  • How will Asia, the most populous in the world with basic needs of many being unsettled, develop and meet the expectation of a more informed global society?

  • With rising powers like China, India and Indonesia leading the charge for a more peaceful era, can the region positively advance international cooperation and development to address the pressing issues of our times?

  • What can China, as the region’s superpower contribute to this end amidst the uncertain bilateral relation with the West, particularly the U.S.?

  • What does China have to do to gain the support of its neighbours in achieving its stated goal of peaceful rise?

  • How will the structural changes taking place in China now affect the country, the region and its relationship with the wider world?

  • How will China’s seemingly breathless speed of innovation in areas such as renewable energy, EV, green tech, change the country and benefit the region and the world?

  • Will the impact of the developments in China ease tensions and if not, why not?

The conferences will provide a platform for intellectual exchange and networking among a diverse range of participants, including government officials, business leaders, scholars, and civil society representatives.
